Augusta Audiology Associates is proud to serve the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding communities. Our goal is to educate and provide exceptional care to our patients regardless of income. We work closely with the Augusta Free Clinic providing hearing diagnostic services. We also help patients find hearing assistance programs such as those offered through the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services, Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and other community resources.
Our mission is to provide the best care possible by establishing an appropriate rehabilitative plan which meets the needs of the individual. Through personal consultation, we will educate patients, family and friends to understand the effects of hearing loss. We will assist with the selection of devices and compensatory strategies that are designed to accommodate your auditory needs as well
as your lifestyle
Dr. Julie A. Farrar-Hersch
Augusta Audiology Associates was founded in 1994 by Dr. Julie Farrar-Hersch. Prior to that, she practiced 16 years at the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Virginia, working with a diverse patient population and serving as a statewide consultant. She also gained valuable experience while seeing patients in private Otolaryngology practices.
Dr. Farrar-Hersch obtained her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Audiology from the University of Virginia. She served eight years on the Virginia Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology; five as its Chair. She also served on the Ethics Committee of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. Both of these experiences led her to advocate for the rights of patients to ensure that they receive quality care in an ethical manner. One of her professional interests is central auditory processing, which has a significant effect on what we do with what we hear. The subtle changes to our auditory system over the years impacts our communication, participation in activities, lifestyle, relationships and self-esteem.
